Mr Shankar is a fellowship-trained surgeon with a specialist interest in computer and
robotic navigation-assisted hip and knee arthroplasty, and was the first surgeon to
perform computer-assisted total hip replacement in the Essex and North East London
region. He has been involved in over 3,000 elective and trauma procedures, including
more than 1,000 hip and knee replacements. He trained on the Royal National
Orthopaedic Hospital rotation, with fellowships at RNOH Stanmore and the Golden
Jubilee Hospital, Glasgow, in lower limb arthroplasty and navigation-assisted surgery,
and a travelling fellowship in Rummelsberg, Germany, in anterior approach hip
arthroplasty. He has previously served as Clinical Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics, is
a faculty member on national training courses, and has published on computer-assisted
navigation in joint replacement.
